Hannah and Carlos had their Wedding ceremony on 27th July 2019 at the beautiful Hull Minster followed by a fun-filled reception at Trinity Market in Hull. They chose our biodegradable Slowfall Rainbow confetti which is available in our Mixed For You range on our website.
"Carlos and I met five years ago at a language exchange night that I run in Hull and got engaged on Christmas Day 2018, at our house. It was a massive surprise for me and was perfect that it was just the two of us, not in public, as I would have felt very awkward! I was annoyed because Carlos hadn’t given me a Christmas card yet - then in the morning he gave me my card and it said “Merry Christmas Fiancé.” I thought he’d bought the wrong one, but then he brought out a ring! Although, he hadn’t read all the printed verse inside properly, which read “can’t wait to be your wife” so we had a good laugh about that."
"The wedding was a mixture of English and Spanish traditions as Carlos (my husband!) comes from Spain and all his family and friends came over to Hull for the weekend. Hull is my hometown and Carlos' adopted hometown now, so we really wanted the wedding to be a celebration of our two cultures and our love of a very underrated city! People kept asking if we had a "theme" but it was just a mish-mash of so many things so we started saying, 'the theme is - Stuff We Like!'"
"We both loved the idea of a city wedding from photos that we had seen online but were struggling to find the right sort of venue since at the time there no alternative city wedding venues in Hull. We loved the newly renovated Trinity Market because the inside and outside of the building is really lovely and full of independent businesses."
"We saw they could host private events so got in touch to ask if they would consider a wedding reception there and luckily for us they agreed so we were the first ones! The manager Lucy was so supportive of our idea and it wouldn’t have happened without her. It's the perfect set up as there are lots of permanent street food vendors inside there already and they host live music nights so was easy for us to hire a band."
"On the same square as the Market, is Hull Minster and a church wedding was very important to us both so the whole location was perfect since they are next door to each other! We even ended up with a vicar who spoke Spanish and English so the ceremony was so special, being able to have blessings and readings in both languages. Hull Minster also offered us the option of hosting our drinks reception after the ceremony so we had Pimms, Sangria and antipasti in the nave of the church!"
"The reception was so perfect for us, as we didn't want anything too formal. We wanted it to just feel likeone big party and that's exactly how it was - every time we looked around, everyone was laughing and smiling and it just was the loveliest feeling."
"We picked our favourite vendors in the market and guests were given tokens to go and get food from the stalls. We had Shoot The Bull (gourmet burgers and hot dogs) Greko (authentic gyros, run by a Greek family!) and The Falafia (homemade falafel wraps). For desserts we had mini dessert selection from another market vendor, Cocoa Chocolatier & Bakehouse. Everyone loved the food and it was a great way for people to chat and get to know each other as they queued up at the food stalls."
"In the evening we had a great band called Turn Up The Sun who played all the 00s indie classics! The evening was VERY lively - Carlos' dad was introduced to jagerbombs for the first time and there was quite a bit of dancing on tables towards the end of the night! We used another market vendor, Cone Queen to give everyone pizza cones (a genius invention!) halfway through the night to soak up some of the alcohol... And it was Carlos' 30th the day after the wedding so I arranged for a cake and everyone sang "happy birthday" to him on the night!"
"I'm really lucky that I have a very talented florist cousin, The Floral Studio, who made the beautiful bouquets and buttonholes and my lovely mum, who is a keen gardener, grew all the flowers for our table centrepieces which was very special! Also lucky that my auntie makes amazing cakes and she made our delicious naked cake which she decorated with edible flowers. I did all the stationery and signs after learning calligraphy as a hobby a few years ago."
"We decided to hire an on the day wedding coordinator since the market had to be open to the public on the morning of the wedding so we wouldn’t be able to set up tables the night before, and I am so glad we did because Andrea from Moxie Events was the best – she helped our wedding run like clockwork and was such a great support in the run up (and has the best ideas!)."
"We are big fans of supporting small independent businesses (and the quality of service and products is usually so much higher!) so we were really glad that we were able to do that for all our wedding suppliers."
"Our wedding was such an amazing day that I could go on about it forever."
